Rabbit kidney.
Histology section through the cortex and the juxtamedullary zone, oriented along the longitudinal axis of the nephrons.
In the cortex, two functionnally different compartements are distinguishable.
1. Labyrintic zones which include the glomeruli and the convoluted segments of the proximal and distal tubules.
2. Medullary rays in which the straight segments of the nephrons (pars recta of the proximal tubule, thick ascending limb of Henle's loops and collecting ducts) run in parallel.
