PHOTO 17 - Rat kidney

Rat kidney.

Arterial vasculature (white Microfil, moderate filling).

Longitudinal section showing the whole cortex (superficiel cortex at the top, deep cortex at the bottom).

Vertical axes are visible, in which interlobular arteries are giving rise to afferent arterioles providing blood to the glomeruli. Between these axes, postglomerular capillaries are seen, which supply blood to the tubules. Compare with picture 15 which shows, in the rabbit, a histological section of the cortex with the same orientation.
